Merry Christmas from the USA

This Christmas track coincided with the ongoing bombings of fishing boats off the coast of Venezuela and the never-ending, American funded and fueled genocide in Gaza. I couldn’t get the image out of my head of Uncle Sam as Saint Nick, flying over the children of the world and dropping presents (in the forms of bombs) to the families below. It came together quickly, recorded with the help of drum tracks and mixing services from the phenomenal Todd Glidewell (The Sleeping Cliffs).

LYRICS

Been staring at the bottom line
Ain’t trending right this Christmastime
Nobody’s out there buying what they’re selling
Damn they’re trying
Fake pictures from a line of text
A song you didn’t write, what’s next?
A META boardroom session
Staving off the Great Depression

There’s still a button left to press
Still one more place to sell excess
Unlucky fishermen attest

Father Christmas taking flight
In the early morning light
There’s not a chimney in sight
But here’s a little gift
Now our stimulus begins
Where your life and freedom ends
There’s only bits of wood to sift
So Merry Christmas from the USA and then
Merry Christmas from the USA again

I guess she crossed some yellow line
She’s too small to read the signs
They won’t tell you she’s a baby
When they crow about it
Some people never get a say
Some are simply in the way
Of a most favored nation
Buying up the information

You don’t see the bullets fly
Wash your hands, protect your pride
But our flag was printed on the side

Father Christmas in the air
Dropping every child their share
A yellow ribbon in her hair
A story now complete
All these words that just don’t fit
Freedom fighter, terrorist
It’s just a baby in the street
So Merry Christmas from the land of the free
Merry Christmas, bought and paid by you and me

Father Christmas, God of War
How is it you still need more
What was living even for?
Is it what we’ve always been
If that’s the price of life, oh well
I guess I’ll see you all in Hell
And leave the ashes here for them
So Merry Christmas from the USA and then
Merry Christmas from the USA again
And again, and again
